Videos in Kaltura have a new player look and interface. Checkout the screenshots and descriptions to get familiar with the changes.
This player should smoothly update almost everywhere without any action from Kaltura users.
The only videos that will not automatically update are those that are using an embed code to appear on My Meredith, Meredith.edu, or other 3rd party websites. These videos will continue working but you can update the player by copying updated embed code from the video.
Overlay icons
Many of the player features are now overlay icons in the top right corner of the video.
- Navigation (magnifying glass icon) – search the video and views lists of
- All video navigation elements
- Bookmarks
- Slides
- Hotspots
- Transcript (block/page icon) – open a sidebar with timed transcript. Has option to download, print, or search transcript.
- Report content (flag icon) – click to report any inappropriate content
- Video info (circle with i icon) – see an overlay of video information
- Title
- Owner
- Views/plays
- Description
These overlay icons will disappear as the video plays. Just hover over the video to use the icons.
Picture in picture controls are now overlaid on the smaller video.
- Hide – hide the second screen
- Side by side screens (popout icon) – moves the second screen to be side by side with the main screen
- Switch to secondary screen (left and right arrow icon) – switches which screen is in the smaller frame
The player also has the standard buttons for sound, caption, full screen, etc.
Pop out sidebar
Many option have moved to a right hand sidebar. Some are detailed in the overlay icons section such as navigation and transcript. This is also where any playlist videos are shown as well.
